Continued Greening of McInnes Rolled Rings
Now that there is a bit more time available, we have decided to use it for doing green projects throughout our plant to save energy and to lower our overhead going forward. Most businesses realize the cost of energy will only increase in the future. The projects are being selected on the basis of return on investment and the effect it can have on our overall work environment.
Our first project, which will be complete in the next few months, is the replacement of all lighting fixtures throughout the plant. We are replacing our 400 watt and 1,000 watt metal halide fixtures in the plant with T5 high output linear fluorescent fixtures. Benefits include better and more light (higher foot candle ratings) with the same number of fixtures and greatly reduced energy consumption. It is estimated that our electricity consumption for lighting will be reduced by approximately 50%.
Even fixtures less than 2 years old are being replaced in this program as the payback will be less than a year. This is in part due to the reduction in the amount of energy consumed and the incentives provided by the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This Act provides significant incentives in the form of tax deductions for companies to improve energy efficiency.

A better planet along with better margins……a good goal for all companies!

McInnes Rolled Rings achieves AS9100B Certification
McInnes Rolled Rings is proud to announce that our quality management system has achieved AS9100B certification. We are committed to our quality management system and have integrated it into all aspects of the company since our ISO 9001 certification was achieved in 2003. The upgrade to AS9100 allowed us to step back, look at our system, and make changes necessary for AS9100 that also promote continuous improvement. The AS9100B standard includes all of the elements of ISO 9001 with additional requirements specific to the aerospace industry.
Through the efforts of each associate McInnes Rolled Rings achieved certification to AS9100B on December 21, 2009. We have also implemented the changes that AS9100C brings and plan to upgrade at our first surveillance audit. We will use the changes to our quality management system to meet our goal … continually improve customer satisfaction by shipping acceptable rings on-time at a competitive price!

Steel prices have been steadily moving up over the past 9 months along with most other commodities. The attached graph gives you a good idea of just what we have been seeing. Expectations for the next quarter are for a continuation of this upward trend, even though in May we did see prices go "down" slightly.
